AVAILABLE TOKAYS

Tokay Geckos
(Gekko gecko gecko)

Tokay geckos are one of the largest geckos, sometimes attaining lengths of up to 16 inches.  They are very commonly kept and make great display animals.  The only drawback with tokays is that they are not typically handleable, although, they can be tamed if handled frequently as young animals.  Tokays are nocturnal and spend all of their time foraging for food at night.  The males are extremely vocal and have a very interesting mating call.  This species is actually very communal and will even protect their young.  The females typically lay two hard shelled eggs which they glue to the sides of bark or other cage "furnishings."  The eggs take around 3-6 months to hatch, depending on the temperatures within their cages.  In general tokays should be kept around 85-90 degrees F during the day with a around a five to ten degree drop at night.  They are tropical and like to be misted at least once a day.
